About the Sebastian, Florida Area

The Vero Beach / Sebastian areas are prime for future growth in Florida.
Boating, swimming, biking, fishing, golf, and plenty of beach life are very abundent throughout the area.  And of course, we have those great Florida
beaches! We have family restaurants as well as many upscale dining experiances available. For the lover of the arts, there is a great museum and theatre district. Let me show you what the area has available to meet your housing needs! There is so much I would like to discuss with you!

Brevard County

Brevard County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. As of 2000, the population was 476,230 (the local 2005 estimate is 510,000). Because of the presence of the John F. Kennedy Space Flight Center, Brevard County is also known as the Space Coast.

Located half-way between Jacksonville, Florida and Miami, Brevard County is an extra-long county, extending over 70 miles from north to south, but only a handfull of miles inland from the seacoast at any point. In marshes in the western part of this county is the source of the St. Johns River. Extending all the way from the northern boundary with Volusia County to the southern boundary with Indian River County is the major expressway Interstate 95, which links all cities in Brevard County with each other, and with Daytona Beach to the north, and Vero Beach to the south. Extending westward from downtown Melbourne is the major highway US Rte-192, providing access to Osceola County, Orange County, Kissimmee, Orlando, and the expressway Interstate 4.

Regular, scheduled, commercial airline service is provided from Brevard County by the large airports in Melbourne and Orlando.

The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway along the eastern edge of Brevard County is the major waterway route in Brevard County.

Port Canaveral is a major cruise port.

The Florida East Coast Railway passes through the length of Brevard County.

Military installations in Brevard County include Patrick Air Force Base, near Satellite Beach, and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center.

There are several broadcast radio stations in Brevard County, but broadcast television service is provided by stations in Orlando and Orlando-Daytona Beach.

Higher education in Brevard County is provided by the Brevard Community College and the Florida Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in Melbourne. The Brevard Community College is a two-year college, which has multiple campuses in the northern, central, and southern parts of this county.

The official county seat is Titusville, however nearly all county administration is performed from Viera6. There has been no official change to the county seat since 1894. Since Brevard County extends so far from north to south, it has more than one county courthouse and police station. The governmnet services are not centralized in one location, as they are in many American counties.

Sebastian

The City of Sebastian, Florida is located in Indian River County approximately midway through the east coast of the Florida Peninsula between Melbourne and Vero Beach in an area known as the Treasure Coast. It is recognized as the home of Pelican Island, the first designated wildlife refuge in the United States, a Millennium City, and a Tree City USA.

The City of Sebastian was first incorporated as the Town of Sebastian in 1924. Current population is approximately 20,000. The City has seen rapid growth in the past several years and it is anticipated to continue.

The City of Sebastian boasts beautiful parks, public and private elementary schools, middle schools, and a high school just outside of its limits, an unobstructed view of the intra-coastal waterway in the Indian River Lagoon along its dazzling riverfront district, close proximity to Atlantic beaches, a year round average temperature of 73.4 degrees, a police department, shops and restaurants, many churches, several City festivals each year, monthly arts and crafts shows, concerts in the park, a municipal golf course and airport, and a central location with easy access to I-95 and the Florida Turnpike.

St. Lucie County

We love our beautiful, uncrowded beaches as much as guests do. And that’s why St. Lucie County has worked to create countless public beach access points all along our scenic coastline. So when you’re here, you’ll never search long for a place to bask in the St. Lucie sun. Plus, dog lovers can enjoy Walton Rocks Dog Beach together with their four-legged friends.

Our marinas make enjoying inland and on-water activities equally easy at sites conveniently located throughout the area. Cruise into the county on your boat, or rent one for an hour or more right on site. What’s more, you’ll also often find authentic, locally owned seafood restaurants, lounges and shops right where you drop anchor.

Golf Digest, Golf World, Golf for Women
and Travel & Leisure Golf agree: The artfully crafted courses of the PGA Golf Club rank among America’s best. Tom Fazio’s Ryder and Wanamaker Courses provide distinctly different playing experiences, and the Pete Dye-designed Dye Course interweaves a slight British Isles feel into the beautiful Florida landscape. All at Port St. Lucie’s PGA Village, the only PGA of America-owned facility that is open to the public.

Every trained diver knows the importance of having high-quality gear close at hand. Masks, tanks, fins and other aquatic accoutrements play as pivotal a role in serious diver’s chosen pursuit as ropes, picks and walking sticks are to mountain climbers.

Fortunately, St. Lucie County’s dive shops provide affordable equipment and expert advice, helping you have a safe and exciting descent into the sea. Some also offer certification classes for those new to the sport.

You’d think that a community as close to the ocean as St. Lucie County would serve outstanding seafood—and you’d be right. Every one of our many restaurants has access to fresh, locally caught fish and shellfish, and until you’ve eaten a fresh shrimp (not frozen) you don’t know what a shrimp tastes like. Our fruits and vegetables are similarly available from local farmers markets, and overall you’ll wish you could eat four or five meals a day.

Vero Beach

The City of Vero Beach is a political subdivision of the State of Florida.  The City was originally incorporated in 1919 as the City of Vero.  In 1925, the City of Vero was re-incorporated as the City of Vero Beach and was transferred from St. Lucie County to Indian River County.

The City of Vero Beach consists of 13.1 square miles and is located about 190 miles south of Jacksonville and 135 miles north of Miami on Florida's east coast. The City's population is currently estimated at 17,900.

The City of Vero Beach serves as its county seat, and is under a Council-Manager form of government. The five members of the City Council are elected to overlapping terms of two years.  The City Manager, City Attorney and City Clerk are appointed by the City Council.

Vero Beach is a full-service City. All traditional city services such as police, public works, and recreation are provided. In addition, the City of Vero Beach operates an electric generation plant, electrical distribution system, water and sewer plants, solid waste collection department, airport and marina.

The Los Angeles Dodgers baseball organization uses a developed site, called Dodgertown, located near the Vero Beach Airport. Dodgertown is used by the Dodgers and its various farm club teams for spring training. This facility includes several practice baseball diamonds, the Holman Stadium, dining facilities, locker rooms, and equipment rooms. Dodgertown is also used for conventions.

The City of Vero Beach strives to provide you with important and helpful information on City services, and I hope you will visit my website often.
